How To Make Your Makeup Last All Day In The Heat Of Charleston And Savannah

January 11, 2025

Planning a wedding in Charleston or Savannah? I know—it’s a lot! You may be thinking about how your makeup is going to last all day with the high humidity we get down here. As a professional bridal makeup artist, I’m here to make sure you’re glowing (and not sweating) all day long, no matter how high the temperature climbs. Keep reading for my tried-and-true tips to keep your makeup looking flawless from the first look to the last dance!

1. Prep Your Skin Like a Pro

Great makeup starts with great skin! Prepping your skin the right way can make all the difference when it comes to battling the heat and humidity.

  • Clean and Fresh: Start your day with a gentle cleanser to remove any dirt or oil. This sets the stage for smooth, long-lasting makeup.
  • Hydrate Without Shine: Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated without adding any extra glow (unless you want it!).
  • Mattifying Primer is Key: A mattifying primer is a must for humid climates. It keeps your makeup in place and helps reduce shine throughout the day. Here is one that I LOVE ! It has ingredients that absorb your natural oils throughout the day and gives you coverage so you could wear this all on its own if you wanted!

2. Choose Heat-Proof Products

Not all products are built to handle the Southern heat! Here’s what I recommend:

  • Waterproof Everything: From foundation to mascara, waterproof and sweat-resistant products are your best friend. You’ll want to opt for silicone based foundations such as the Haus Labs Foundation as these last longer.
  • Long-Wear Foundation: Lightweight, long-wear foundations give you coverage without feeling heavy or melting away.
  • Set It and Forget It: Use a translucent setting powder to lock in your foundation and keep shine at bay.

3. Master the Art of Layering

Layering your makeup strategically is the secret to a look that lasts.

  • Cream + Powder Duo: Layer cream blush and bronzer with their powder counterparts for vibrant, long-lasting color.
  • Use a mix of powders: Use mattifying powders in your T-zone to prevent from looking oily. You can use normal setting powder on the rest of your face to just lock everything in and make sure it doesn’t budge !

4. Pack a Touch-Up Kit

Even with the best prep and products, a quick touch-up can keep you looking fresh all day. Here’s what to include:

  • Blotting papers to soak up excess oil without messing up your makeup.
  • A compact powder for quick shine control.
  • Your lipstick or gloss for reapplication.
  • A mini setting spray for an on-the-go refresh.

5. Trust a Pro Who Gets It

Let’s be real: wedding day makeup in Charleston or Savannah isn’t just about looking good; it’s about feeling confident and worry-free. When you hire a professional who knows how to work with these unique climates, you’ll get a look that’s built to last and photographs beautifully.
